Brush clearing and junk removal in Oak View, CA
Proudly serving Oak View, the unincorporated community at the south end of the Ojai Valley, along Highway 33.
An unincorporated town
Oak View is not a city. It is an unincorporated community of Ventura County, so county agencies handle what a city would elsewhere: Ventura County Fire for brush, county Public Works for trash and recycling, and the county’s Building and Safety and Public Works for permits.
That matters for dirt work. In unincorporated Ventura County, the county’s homeowner guidelines say a grading permit is needed when earth moving goes over 50 cubic yards, or a cut or fill is deeper than 3 feet (Ventura County guidelines). See grading for more.
Brush clearance in Oak View
Oak View sits among brushy hills, oaks and the Ventura River corridor, and it is inside Ventura County Fire’s program. Ventura County Fire’s Fire Hazard Reduction Program mails a Notice to Abate Fire Hazard every April 20, and clearance is due June 1: commonly 100 feet around buildings and 10 feet along roads (Ventura County Fire). The department covers all of Ventura County except the cities of Ventura, Oxnard and Fillmore, so Oak View is in.
If the clearance isn’t done, the county’s contractor can clear it and add the cost and a fee to the tax bill as a lien (FHRP FAQ). Our brush clearing page lists what gets cut.
Bulky items and drop-offs for Oak View
Single-family homes in unincorporated Ventura County get up to three free bulky item pickups a year under the county’s collection agreements (Ventura County FAQ); the county’s map shows which hauler serves your street (county residential recycling). Household hazardous waste goes to the county’s events for unincorporated areas (county hazardous waste).
For what those don’t cover, junk removal and hauling take it in one visit.
