Tractor work with a Bobcat track loader and excavator
The jobs that are too much for a shovel and a wheelbarrow: moving dirt, spreading material, scraping lots and loading trucks, with our own machines and operators.
Signs you need tractor work
- 01A delivered pile of dirt, gravel or chips needs to be spread
- 02A dirt road or driveway is rutted and washboarded
- 03A lot needs to be scraped of weeds and roots
- 04Material has to be moved from one side of a property to the other
- 05A truck needs loading and there is no machine on site
- 06Ranch or horse property needs dirt work around barns and pens
What the machines do
Tractor work is the general dirt and material work on a property that needs a machine but not a whole construction crew. We bring the machine and the operator, and the job is done in hours instead of days of shoveling.
Spreading: dirt, gravel, road base, sand and wood chips spread and leveled where you want them.
Scraping: weeds, roots and the top layer stripped off a lot or a pad, like the lot in our photos.
Moving material: piles moved across a property, to a garden, behind a barn or to where a truck can reach them.
Loading: trucks and trailers filled by the bucket, for us or for you.
Dirt roads and driveways: ruts filled and the surface bladed back to shape.
The Bobcat T770 and E45
The Bobcat T770 is a large compact track loader. Rubber tracks spread its weight, so it works on soft dirt and slopes where a wheeled machine would sink or slide, and its bucket moves a lot of material per trip. The E45 mini excavator digs, pulls stumps and loads where reach matters more than bucket size.
Both travel on our orange Diamond C equipment trailers. Where a job also needs digging, it is on our excavation page; leveling for a slab or a patio is on grading.
Rural and hillside properties
Much of this work is on bigger properties in the valleys and hills: ranches, horse properties, orchards and homes on acreage, where there is always a pile to move or a road to fix. Tracks make the difference on hillside ground.
Before any work that cuts into the ground, 811 is called so buried lines are marked (DigAlert), and larger amounts of dirt can need a county grading permit (Ventura County guidelines).
How a tractor work job runs
Tell us the job
What needs to move, how much, and how the machine gets onto the property.
Price for the job
You hear what it costs and how long the machine will be there.
Machine on site
The machine unloads from the trailer and gets to work.
Cleaned up
Material is where you want it, and the ground the machine crossed is smoothed out.
What decides the price of tractor work
Tractor work is priced on the job and how long the machine is needed, plus anything hauled in or out.
| What it depends on | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Time on site | Most of the price is how long the machine and operator are working. |
| Which machine | The track loader, the excavator, or both. |
| Material | Anything brought in or hauled away is priced separately. |
| Ground | Slopes and soft ground are slower. |
