Junk removal and brush clearing in Thousand Oaks, CA
Proudly serving Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park, where homes back onto open space and the brush notices come every spring.
Thousand Oaks homes, by the numbers
Thousand Oaks has about 46,500 lived-in homes and about 125,000 people (Census Reporter, Thousand Oaks). More than half the homes, about 52 percent, were built in the 1960s and 70s, and about 71 percent are owned by the people living in them.
Long-time owners and big garages mean full garages. Cleanouts before a sale, estate work and remodels on houses now 50 or 60 years old make up much of the junk removal and debris work here.
Brush clearance where homes meet open space
Thousand Oaks is in Ventura County Fire’s territory. Ventura County Fire’s Fire Hazard Reduction Program mails a Notice to Abate Fire Hazard every April 20, and clearance is due June 1: commonly 100 feet around buildings and 10 feet along roads (Ventura County Fire). Owners with natural brush within 100 feet of a house, their own or a neighbor’s, are in the program, and each owner clears the part that sits on their own land (FHRP FAQ).
With so many streets backing onto hillsides and open space, brush clearance is a yearly job for many owners here. Our brush clearing crew mows, thins and limbs up to the county’s guide and hauls everything away, and our guide to Ventura County’s brush clearance rules covers each zone.
Free bulky pickups and what they don’t take
Thousand Oaks residents can ask for up to two free bulky item collections a year, six items in total, through Athens Services (City of Thousand Oaks). The city doesn’t take construction debris such as dirt, concrete, tile, drywall and rock that way, or hazardous waste, which goes to the city’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility on Rancho Conejo Road (Ventura County list).
Anything past six items, anything from a remodel, and anything that has to come out of the house is junk removal or debris removal.
